FIGURE STYLE 14, MALI

Photographs © Tim Hamill

FIGURE 14
29" high
$200
SOLD

We believe this figure was carved for the collecting market. It is not tribal.

Although  it has some resemblance to a Dogon form, its style is contemporary, with a non-traditional subject and a unusually realistic face and curvilinear shapes that are unlike usual Dogon carving. It has three areas where wood is broken off: the right foot, the head of the upside-down bird and what was a staff extending from the left shoulder down to theleft hip. The custom iron base is included.
