Despite its appearance, this mask shows no evidence of age or use
and was probably made to be sold.
The Dogon carve over eighty kinds of mask some of which, especially the
Satimbe, Katanga and Sirige, are considered to have potent magical powers.
Others, representing hunters or animals, are used in dances of a more celebratory
or social nature.
