DOGON WALU MASKS, MALI

These striking rectangular masks represent the antelope, an animal admired for its beauty and strength. Dancers strike the ground with sticks to represent the antelope pawing the ground. Numbers 1, 3 and 4 retain original pigment. Numbers 2 and 5 show no signs of ever having been painted.
