This wonderful old staff was donated to the collection of the Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg, MA

It has been vetted as authentic, showing signs of significant use and age.

Staffs made of iron and brass were displayed in royal compounds to affirm kingly power. Usually depicting a king with related motifs, they were called "Asen" and commemorated past rulers. There are six solid cast figures, five seated and one kneeling. Twelve of the hanging bead/disc ornaments are missing, otherwise it is in very good condition.
