DAN GAMEBOARDS (MANKALA) (Mancala, Wari), Liberia

Dan gameboards range from everyday objects with monumental, simple forms to ornate pieces bringing status to the owner. Like their spoons and other objects, Dan gameboards usually have a head as part of the carving. They all show the creativity and power Africans put into functional objects.

Despite their appearance, we believe these gameboards were made to be sold.
