NIGERIAN
/ NORTHERN CAMEROON
DANCE AX 15
13" high x 10 1/2" wide x 3/8" deep
Nigeria / Cameroon border region
$200

Note that this dance ax consists of two combined pieces of iron and has a conical bottom.

"In the border region between northeastern Nigeria and northern Cameroon, a number of tribes (such as the Chamba, Mambila, Mumuye, and Montol) brandish small, delicate dance axes such as this in ritual dances. The decoration applied to this piece typically consists of copper wire wrapped at the junction between the shaft and wing, and geometric or herringbone incisions (Prof. Erwin Melchardt, 2017)."
