LEGA, BWAMI MASKS 3, DRC
Masks like these were used in instruction and initiation ceremonies into the five progressive levels of Bwami, the Lega men's association.
For the photographs the eye slots were blocked with black cloth to simulate how the mask would appear when worn or hung on a wall.
These Lega masks show no evidence of age or use and were probably made to be sold.
