*Mende Helmet Mask 53 was selected by the Fitchburg Museum and was donated to their permanent collection.
This mask has been vetted as authentic, dating from the first half of the 20th Century.
This mask was vetted by Daniel Mato, author (with Charles Miller III) of Sande, masks and statues from Liberia and Sierra-Leone.
This old mask has has a repaired crack on the left side blow the ear (see above photograph). The eye slits may have been recarved to improve visability for the wearer. The interior has been darkened.
