SONGYE STYLE
SHIELD 23
25 " high x 12" wide x 6.5" deep
$600
SOLD

Songye shields are all carved from single pieces of wood. The heads on the shields relate to the masks of this once warlike people from the DRC (Zaire) whose art projects an aggressive strength unparalleled in African art.

Despite its appearance, this shield shows little evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.  The crack on the bottom (and missing piece) is now stable
