BAMANA
N'tomo Mask 1
21.5" high x 7"wide x 4.5"deep
$2000

This Bamana N'tomo mask has been vetted by a French dealer as being authentic with significant signs of use and age.

Many seeds from the front of the horns have been lost. The left horn was broken near the head and repaired.

Among the Bamana, one of the most popular dances is that of the Ntomo association. Functioning as a bush school for the young, their dances were performed at harvest festivals. The number of horns indicated the sex of the mask. (male: 3 or 6, female: 4 or 8, androgynous: 2,5 or 7.)
