BATEWKE / TSAYE, MASK 11, Congo, 24", $350, SOLD © Tim
Hamill
These flat, round, abstracted masks are enhanced with symbols of Tsaye beliefs. Used in rituals of Kidumu, the male association, the masks express their social and religious values. This mask, larger than usual, is fairly new and has some cracks (now stable) at one eye due to a flaw in the wood.
