Despite its appearance, this Baule figure shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.
This semi-colonial figure exhibits little of the Baule love for detail and nice carving. What it lacks in skillful carving it makes up in creative anatomy. The solution to raising an elbowless arm to the head is wonderful! It suffers from some wood loss on the base and an awkwardly repaired crack down the front of the figure.
