BETE STYLE FIGURE 1, Ivory Coast

 

Despite its appearance, this Bete figure shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.

Unlike the neighboring Baule, the Bete do not make alot of figures.  This one shows interesting scarification patterns on the neck, torso and legs. There is a repaired crack coming down the right side of the head and torso, an obvious loss of both feet and less obvious loss of fingertips and damage to the lower abdomen.
