Despite its appearance and patina, this unusual and light colored Hemba figure shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.
There are traces of a darker pigment on the face and figure. There are minor cracks plus large cracks on the back of the head, the right shoulder to the base and obvious wood loss on the front of the base.
Usually representing spirits or ancestors , these figures, male or female, exhibit a timeless, serene quality important to the Hemba people.
