This mask has been vetted as authentic, dating from the late 20th Century. Although elaborately carved it shows little age or use.
This mask was vetted by Daniel Mato, author (with Charles Miller III) of Sande, Masks and Statues from Liberia and Sierra-Leone.
The top piece is separate, fastened on with a nail. There is a small crack below the right ear and a large one on the top right back (see detail below). They are now stable. The interior has been darkened. The collar holes are regular and were probably drilled.
