Most Nupe are Muslim and their art is therefore abstract, with only some stylized animals in relief on their doors and some pots. The stools come in many forms yet are all carved from single blocks of wood. All share a richly carved top surface.
NOTE: This stool has two legs that were half broken off and replaced ( visible in the second picture by the change in surface texture.) .The center circle on the top is carefully carved from another piece of wood and inserted, probably to replace old damage (Visible in front and back views, less from the top). The underneath has been restored as well, some patching is visible in the middle when turned over.
