This stool shows signs of age and use, but with considerable wood loss on the top. I find the contrast between the smooth, original surface and rough irregular damage interesting, as if nature is in conflict with a man-made object. The legs are nicely tapered and relatively undamaged compared to the ravine ravaged top. One leg was cracked halfway up and repaired ( right leg on image 1, left leg on image 2).
These wonderfully simple sculptural forms are carved from a single block
of wood by the Senufo people of Ivory Coast.
