This stool shows signs of age and use. There is visible wear on the top and edges but, with its tall nicely tapered legs, this is the best of our Senufo stools.
There is, however, a repaired crack on the top ( on the top view, 1/3 up the right side, it extends 1/3 across the top and 1/2 across the bottom (last photo). What appears to be a crack at the bottom left corner, is not. Three of the legs were broken off right at the top and were reglued. They are now stable but the repairs show from underneath the stool (see image 3 and the last 2 details). The faded darker bands on the legs do not cover repairs, they must have been for decoration or identification. There is one repaired crack just above the painted line (last photo, right leg). There is an obvious stain near the bottom of one leg.
This wonderfully simple sculptural form was carved from a single block of wood by the Senufo people of Ivory Coast.
