Lega masks were used in instruction and initiation ceremonies into the
five progressive levels of Bwami, the association that Lega men rise through
with lifelong learning and deeds. Very little is known about the posts and
figures. We do not know how, or if, they were used. Some, especially Posts
1 and 4, may not even be Lega.
