Called Bieri, these figures were guardians of the enshrined relics of important ancestors. Sitting on top of the containers, they were also consulted for aid and protection. They are notable for their child-like proportions contrasted with a muscular, poised vigilance. This figure, with the form and body of a Fang figure, has a face that makes us uncertain of its origin.
Despite its appearance, this figure shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.
